Angela Evelyn Bassett has been an American actress since late 1980s. Her work has been recognized for TV and film in the 1980s, she's been awarded numerous awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett is a native of New York New York and fostered by an aunt living in Winston-Salem North Carolina. Bassett relocated with her twin sister in St. Petersburg Florida at the age of five in order to be closer to their mother and father, who had separated from their father. In high school, Bassett watched John Steinbeck's drama Of Mice and Men starring James Earl Jones and decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actor. The year was 1980 and Bassett was graduated from Yale University New Haven Connecticut with the degree of African American studies. She was also awarded a degree by the Yale School of Drama. She met Courtney B. Vance, another actress from Yale and they married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. Graduated from Yale School of Drama School with a Master's Degree of African American studies, in the year 1980.
